Military Moving in Oxnard
Locally Owned, Locally Delivered: Portable Storage for NBVC Families
Go Mini's Franchising, LLC. is locally owned and operated, delivering portable storage containers directly to homes across Oxnard and the surrounding communities where Naval Base Ventura County personnel live off-base. Oxnard sits about 10 minutes from the NBVC main gate and is the largest city in Ventura County, CA, making it the most common address for service members assigned to Port Hueneme or Point Mugu. We know this area because we work in it every day.
NBVC serves more than 19,000 military and civilian personnel, including over 2,600 active-duty Navy Seabees supported at Port Hueneme. When PCS orders arrive, the window between receiving them and reporting to a new duty station can compress fast. We support both PCS moves and TDY transitions, and we’re built to keep up when your schedule shifts at the last minute.

How a PPM Works with Go Mini’s Military Storage Containers
A Personally Procured Move (PPM), also called a DIY move, lets you manage your own relocation instead of relying on a government-contracted carrier. The military can reimburse you up to 100% of what it would cost if they hired a government-contracted mover. If your actual costs come in below that amount, you may keep the difference.
Military storage containers fit the PPM model well. You pack on your own schedule, we deliver and transport the container, and you stay in control of your household goods throughout the move. Per Military OneSource, portable storage containers are eligible for PPM moves, though the process requires weight tickets: the container is weighed empty before delivery and again when full. Those tickets document the shipment weight for reimbursement purposes. You can also do a partial PPM, handling some goods independently while a government shipment covers the rest.
On-Base Housing, Wait Lists, & the Oxnard Gap
On-base housing exists at both Port Hueneme and Point Mugu, but availability isn’t guaranteed. Many NBVC-assigned families end up off-base in Oxnard, Port Hueneme, or Camarillo while waiting for a space to open. NBVC falls within the Oxnard-Ventura, CA Military Housing Area for Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) purposes, and that wait-list gap is one of the most common logistical challenges we help families navigate.
We can hold your container in secure off-site storage until you have a confirmed delivery address, whether that’s on-base, a rental in Oxnard, or somewhere else in Ventura County. Our containers are weather-resistant, ventilated, and sit eight inches off the ground, which matters in a coastal marine environment where moisture is a real concern for stored household goods.
Why Military Families near NBVC Choose Us
Being locally owned and operated means we understand the off-base communities around NBVC and can respond quickly when timelines change. There’s no regional dispatch routing your delivery through a broader SoCal network. We’re based in Ventura County, and we move within it.
Practical reasons to choose us:
- Three container sizes: 12-foot, 16-foot, and 20-foot options. The 20-foot container provides more capacity than competitors offering only 12- or 16-foot containers.
- Ground-level containers: No ramp or lift gate needed. Load and unload without equipment, and padded wheels protect your driveway from damage.
- Flexible rental periods: No fixed return date. Keep the container as long as your PCS timeline requires.
- Transparent pricing: No hidden fees, mileage charges, fuel costs, or insurance added at checkout.
- MiniGuard™ Protection Plan: Available for added peace of mind on your stored goods.

How the Process Works
Using Go Mini’s for a military move comes down to three straightforward steps, with no fixed crew schedule to coordinate around and no deadline pressure while you’re packing.
Step 1: Reserve Your Container
Book online or by phone and choose the size that fits your household: 12-foot, 16-foot, or 20-foot. Not sure which fits your home? We can help you work through it.
Step 2: We Deliver, You Pack
We deliver the container to your current address. You load at your own pace with no deadline. If your orders push your timeline out, the container stays until you’re ready.
Step 3: We Transport or Store
When you’re ready, we transport the container to your new address. If you don’t have a confirmed delivery address yet, we hold it in secure off-site storage until you do. If your destination or timing changes after orders arrive, we can accommodate that without requiring you to start over.
Container Features That Matter on a PCS Move
Household goods sitting in storage during a housing gap face real risks. Our containers are built to address them.
- Weather-resistant and secure: Protects goods from water damage, pests, and theft during extended storage periods.
- Ventilated design: Reduces interior moisture and humidity that can lead to mold and mildew on stored items.
- Eight inches off the ground: Limits moisture exposure from below, an important feature in Ventura County’s coastal environment.
- Ground-level access: No ramp or lift gate required. Load and unload at any time without additional equipment.
PCS Timing & Where Portable Storage Fits Each Phase
A PCS move typically runs in three sequential phases: moving out of your current address, occupying temporary lodging, and eventually settling into permanent housing. Those three dates rarely line up. The gap between phase one and phase three is where most storage problems happen: your household goods can’t go to a confirmed address yet, but they can’t stay at the old one either.
Portable storage fits that gap directly. Rather than coordinating a second move from a storage facility to your permanent address, your container stays loaded and ready. When your address is confirmed, we can deliver it.
If you’re doing a partial PPM, a portable container also works well for items that won’t travel with the government shipment: gear that exceeds your weight entitlement, valuables you want direct control over, or items you’ll need access to during the gap period.
Families departing NBVC for an overseas assignment or a distant duty station can also use our secure off-site storage to hold goods in Ventura County until they’re ready for redelivery. There’s no pressure to take delivery before you have an address that can receive it.
