Clean These 6 Things Before Moving

Time to Clean House!

Though you may be saying goodbye to your home, taking care of the chores one last time is an important step in the move-out process. You may need to complete a list of cleaning tasks in order to get your deposit back, or you could simply want to leave a clean slate for the new homeowners.

Whatever your circumstances, here are a few items you shouldn't forget to clean:

1. The Floors

Once the last boxes and pieces of furniture have been packed into your Mini, it's time to look at the state of your floors. It's likely that dust, crumbs, and other packing debris have accumulated. Vacuum the carpets to get rid of any dirt and dust, and sweep and mop the laminate, wood, or tile. Pay special attention to the corners where dirt often accumulates.

2. Baseboards and Windowsills

Baseboards, windowsills, and other areas around the perimeter of the room are often overlooked but are an important part of cleaning. Use a damp cloth to wipe down these surfaces. You can also use a vacuum with an attachment for crevices to get into harder-to-reach areas.

3. Ceiling Fans

Dust accumulates on ceiling fans quickly. Make sure to wipe them down with a dusting cloth before moving out, or the new homeowners will be sneezing and coughing as they turn it on for the first time! Don't forget to clean the attached light fixtures as well.

4. Inside Cupboards and Drawers

Once you've taken everything off the shelves, open your cupboards and drawers to clean the surfaces. Don't forget to wipe off the exterior of these areas, as well.

5. The Bathroom

Bathrooms can be a tedious area to clean, but it's important not to skip this step. After all, the bathroom is one of the germiest rooms in the home! Make sure to scrub the tub or shower, and don't forget to clean and disinfect the sink and toilet.

6. The Garage

After you drive the car down the driveway for the last time, you may notice that your garage is in rough shape. Sweep the floor of any dirt, dust, and debris, and make sure all shelves are wiped down as well. Finally, take care of any last-minute items that must be thrown out or recycled.
