Packing Up Your Home Office

How to Pack Up an Office

Over the past several years, many people have become comfortable in their home offices. From putting up pictures to perfecting a computer set-up, working from home is the new norm for so many.

If you're prepping for a move, packing up your work-from-home station may seem intimidating, but if you take it one step at a time, you can make the transition smooth while keeping your belongings safe. Here are some home office moving tips from the Go Mini's Franchising, LLC. team.

Decluttering

If you haven't used it in the past year, chances are you won't need it in your new place. This is especially true for office supplies, documents, and electronics. Look through old files, drawers, and boxes and dispose of what you no longer want or need. This will keep the number of items you have to move to a minimum, making your move much easier.

Packing Electronics

Electronics are the most important part of a home office, which makes moving them carefully and safely crucial. If possible, back up all important files from your computer onto an external hard drive or the cloud. This will ensure that even if something happens to your computer during the move, you won't lose any data.

Next, unplug and carefully wrap each cord before labeling and packing them into a box. When It comes time to pack your computers and monitors, make sure you're purchasing materials specifically made to keep these items safe.

Packing Your Desk and Chair

Your desk and chair are likely two of the heaviest items in your home office, so it's important to pack them properly to avoid damage. First, disassemble them if possible. This will make them easier to move and will help damage.

Next, wrap the legs of your desk and chair in plastic wrap, packing paper, and/or moving blankets to avoid nicks and scratches. If you have a rolling chair, remove the wheels and place them in a safe space, as they can easily become lost during a move.
