Choose Among Three Container Sizes for Your Project
We offer a 12-foot container, 16-foot container, and 20-foot container for moves, renovations, and storage projects. The right choice depends on the volume of furniture, boxes, equipment, or project materials involved, as well as the space available for placement.
Room-count estimates are a useful starting point, but furnishing levels, packing efficiency, large appliances, and irregularly shaped items can affect the space you need. Use our storage calculator to narrow your options before requesting a quote.
All three options are 8 feet wide and 8 feet high. Their length determines cubic capacity and approximate room coverage.
12-foot container
The 12-foot container measures 8 by 8 by 12 feet and provides 768 cubic feet of space. With room for approximately two to three rooms, it may suit studio or dorm relocations, garage cleanouts, smaller business projects, and limited renovation storage.
16-foot container
The 16-foot container measures 8 by 8 by 16 feet and provides 1,024 cubic feet of space. Its approximate three-to-four-room capacity may work for an apartment or condo move, several rooms of furniture, or a renovation involving one or more areas of a property.
20-foot container
The 20-foot container measures 8 by 8 by 20 feet and offers 1,280 cubic feet of space. Designed for higher-volume needs, it may accommodate approximately four to six rooms, a full-home move, a larger renovation, or business storage involving substantial furniture, equipment, or inventory.
Match the Container Size to Your Contents
Start by listing the rooms and large items involved in your project. Sectional sofas, appliances, workshop materials, shelving, and bulky furniture often affect capacity more than the number of boxes.
Consider these factors before selecting a size:
Project scope: Estimate how many rooms or work areas will contribute items.
Largest pieces: Identify furniture, equipment, or materials that can’t fit in standard boxes.
Packing efficiency: Determine whether items can be stacked safely and how much open space their shapes may create.
Possible project growth: Compare the next larger option if the amount being stored could increase.
Check Delivery Access & Placement Space
The selected size must fit both the placement area and the delivery path leading to it. Our containers are 8 feet wide, and delivery requires a clear path of approximately 60 feet.
Before choosing the 20-foot container, check the driveway length, gates, slopes, landscaping, and overhead clearance. The placement area should be firm, level, and long enough for your selection. Our containers sit approximately 8 inches above the ground, and padded wheels provide Driveway Protection during delivery and pickup.

Compare More Than the Nominal Length
A familiar length label doesn’t always indicate the same usable space from one provider to another. Compare exterior dimensions, cubic capacity, placement requirements, access terms, rental duration, and delivery details rather than relying on length alone.
Available sizes vary substantially among providers. Matching verified dimensions to your contents and property offers a more useful comparison than general labels such as small, medium, or large.

I was put in charge to arrange a storage unit for my daughter and son-in-law's local move. I've used the two larger companies (PODS and 1-800-PACK-RAT) with mixed results. The PODS experience was okay but very expensive, and the 1-800-PACK-RAT experience was expensive and a complete debacle. I decided to look beyond the big names and chose Go Mini's, and I'm glad I did. From my initial contact with Go Mini's representative Shannon Wood to the final pickup, the process was simple. Shannon was friendly, professional, and explained the rental process completely. She answered all my questions and showed genuine concern to help make the moving process less stressful. The unit was dropped off, loaded, and picked up for storage without any issues. When needed, the unit was delivered and the empty unit picked up with no problems.
