Does Sinbad own his home? The comedian born David Adkins recently filed for bankruptcy after the IRS filed $8.15 million in tax liens.  Sinbad has been fighting with the IRS for years but now they are getting serious about getting their money.  His luxury home in the celebrity-friendly enclave of Hidden Hills in Los Angeles County is reportedly owned by his brother, Michael Adkins. But court documents seeking seizure of the house allege that the arrangement is a sham pointing out that Michael Adkins works for his brother’s production company and that the expenses for the property including mortgage payments were paid from the production company account.

The home has hit the market for $3 million. The home was bought in 2007 for $1.5 million. The five-bedroom home sits on 2.4 acres that include a guest house, recording studio, pool and a barn. Listing pictures show a home with plenty of space.

Face-To-Face Phones

Monday, August 9th, 2010

The iPhone 4 is only the latest entry into videophone market. It was introduced June 24th, 2010 and is expected to have wide growth selling over 1 million the first day.  However, Apple is not the inventor nor one of the first companies to have videophone technology operational.

In April 1891, Alexander Graham Bell recorded conceptual notes of an electrical radiophone that discussed “….the possibility of seeing by electricity” using devices that employed tellurium or selenium imaging components. Bell went on to later predict that: “…the day would come when [we will] be able to see the distant person to whom [we're] speaking.” The compound name ‘videophone’ slowly entered into general use after 1950, although ‘video telephone’ likely entered the lexicon earlier after ‘video’ was coined in 1935.

Ironically, Bell Labs conducted extensive research and development of videophones, leading to public demonstrations of its trademarked Picturephone product and service in the 1960s, including displays at the 1964 World’s Fair in flushing Meadows, New York.

The first public video telephone service was developed by Dr. Georg Schubert and opened by the German Reichspost in 1938, but which quickly closed in 1940 due to the WWII. In that service trial, video telephone lines linked Berlin to Nuremberg, Munich, and Hamburg, with terminals integrated within public telephone booths and transmitting at the same resolution as the first German TV sets, at 440 lines. The British General Post Office also operated another public video telephone service prior to World War II.

It looks like another family who got a new home from ABC’s ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ can’t afford the mortgage.

Five years ago, the Wofford family’s home received a new house on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover” show. But now the family’s Encinitas home may be weeks away from foreclosure. For the past two years, the Woffords have been fighting just to live in their home. The family — 8 kids and dad, Dr. Brian Wofford — is still happy despite the prospect of losing their home.

Brian Wofford, a chiropractor, hopes to modify the loan, but it hasn’t come through yet, the story said. If it doesn’t, the home will be on the auction block. Last month, two Las Vegas ‘Extreme Makeover’ homes hit the market after the family’s were unable to keep up the mortgage payments.

Will 50 Cent sell this house … or Die Tryin’? Curtis Jackson III, better known as rapper 50 Cent, listed this home back in 2007 and has since made several price reductions totaling $7.6 million. He started out at $18.5 million, then chopped the price in late 2008 to $14.5 million. Now, you can pick up Fitty’s house for a cool $10.9 mil.

The rapper purchased the mansion in 2003 for $4.1 million from Mike Tyson’s ex-wife. He then spent between $3.5 and $6 million remodeling the 50,000-square-foot home, which includes a disco, a theater, a gym, a helipad and two pools. Though the home’s address was initially 48 Poplar Hills Drive, he changed the house number to — you guessed it — 50.

Celebrity Homes For Sale

Statuesque actress Uma Thurman has just listed her stunning New York City townhouse for sale at $14.2 million. Located on a bucolic block of West 9th Street off lower Fifth Avenue  in Greenwich Village, the elegant 25-ft. wide, five-story, 5,086-sq-ft. pre-war brownstone built c.1900 features seven bedrooms, six-and-a-half baths, and six fireplaces.

Described as a “rare and spectacular offering” by Sotheby’s International Realty, its centerpiece is a grand, elegant parlor with an oversized bay window at the front and southern sun flooding in from the rear. The dining area overlooks the stylized south garden, which has its own outdoor gas fireplace, and has direct access via a stair from the terrace. The full-floor master suite and sitting area have grand proportions and ample closets. Four additional bedrooms and a full stair to a roof deck complete the upper floors. The garden level has an under-stoop entry, a separate guest apartment and a large family room which opens directly onto the garden. It seems Uma, who has not confirmed ownership of the property, may be downgrading; last summer she purchased a Gramercy Park duplex for $2.65 million.

Your Summer Before College: Top 3 Things To Do

Monday, July 5th, 2010

It is the start of a new life for most college freshmen and you are no exception. The expectations are enormous and you have not experienced anything like moving into a dorm your first year of college.

Here are some ideas that may be useful :

1. Spend time with loved ones.

Your parents understand the meaning of you ‘leaving home’ and know the change that is coming. Enjoy your parents, go out to dinner, vacation with them, and just sit and talk. Believe it or not you WILL miss them. Don’t forget your grandparents too. Make it a summer to remember for all.

2.  Money, money, money.
If you haven’t already, now is the time to get a good job and put away as much as possible. Books, food, visiting friends at other schools, and going out requires some additional funds that you may not be getting from mom and dad. You may also need additional equipment that is not included in your tuition costs. A computer, cell phone, or perhaps a small microwave may be needed for the room unless your roommate(s) is bringing one.

3. Meet your roomie.

You will be given the contact information about your upcoming roommate from your college. Get in touch so you can get an idea as to what you will need to bring and what they will be supplying. It is also a good idea to get to know who you will be spending the next several months with in close quarters. He or she may be your next life long friend or you may end up moving out asap.

Give your new roomie a call, send them an email, text message or find them on Facebook. Just be sure to get in touch before you have to move into the dorm.

When you move in remember to call Go Mini’s for the best service. Go Mini’s portable storage and its mobile storage containers offer the very best quality portable storage units at an exceptional value for your moving and storage needs.
